Cycling Academy



A key aspect of the Academy is to provide a pathway to success for individuals of all abilities from beginners through to high performance athletes. Each academy member has access to outstanding training facilities, highly qualified coaches and a dedicated support network to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed.

Academy Goals


  • To provide a programme and quality coaching for  track, road, BMX and mountain biking
  • To increase participation levels
  • To have a pathway and support for the high performance and elite level athletes
  • Provide a link with Run-Cycle-Swim programmes on site at St Peter’s

Prep Squad - This is for first time/first year riders and will be an introduction to bike riding with a focus on improving bike handling skills and road awareness.   Caters for variations in ability groups.

Triathlon/Crosstraining Squad - A cross training squad, to supplement other sports.

Rowing Cross Training / Novice - A squad for Term 2 & 3 targeted at Rowers focused on maintaining fitness for the rowing season. A complementary sport that will develop bike handling skills and strength endurance

Mountain Biking/BMX -
Specialised Coach as required. Provides off site training and rides. Some weekend excursions to Redwoods

Junior Squad - For higher ability juniors in their 2+ year of cycling.  More competitive track and road at Regional and National level.  Individualised training programmes including core and body strength. Training camp if required.  Reporting provided to parents clearly demonstrating progress being made by students in the Academy

High Performance Squad

Specialised coaching targeting National Events.  A step up in training in a High Performance environment and expertise for cyclists to reach their potential.  Individualised training programmes including strength and gym programmes. Access to nutrition, fitness, sport psych services.  An annual training camp and supervised coaching sessions weekly.  Focus on road, track and specialised time trial training. Reporting provided to parents clearly demonstrating progress being made by students in the Academy.  Entry by selection.

Avantidrome

Access to the Avantidrome on site at St Peter’s will be included into the Academy programme for all cyclists.  Training for novice, competitive and recreational track cyclists will be accommodated through Accredited track coaches.
